SciTech SNAP Graphics for OS/2 and Linux

From The Editor

Welcome to our holiday issue. I hope everyone has a festive time and finds lots of good computer goodies under the tree.

OS/2 No Longer for Sale

Well there wasn't any surprise in this announcement if you paid attention to the news from Warpstock, but it was still disheartening to finally see it in print. IBM has announced they will be withdrawing OS/2 in all its flavours from marketing.

So far IBM has not announced any new products for Software Choice this year.

This announcement does not affect eComStation however, and Serenity Systems will be able to continue selling their products. Hopefully we'll be seeing eComStation 1.1 in the first quarter of next year.

OS/2 Actually Still Is For Sale

Oops, sorry, just kidding.

eZine Upgrades

If you are using the latest Mozilla 1.2.1, starting this issue you should notice faster page loads when reading the eZine in order. We have enabled Mozilla's new prefetching feature. If you're on a dialup connection, let us know if you see any difference. We couldn't see any difference, but we view the magazine over a high-speed connection.

Also, we've added automatic resizing of images. If the image is small enough to fit on your screen, you'll see it full size, otherwise just like in previous issues, you'll see it smaller and you can click it to see it full size.

Cool Website of the Month

I picked up a digital camera this month, a Nikon Coolpix 995. If you're looking for camera reviews, look no further than Steve's Digicams which has some of the most detailed and extensive reviews I've ever seen. If you're interested in help in picking out a camera, this is the place to go.

This Issue

Bas Heijermans ponders OS/2's 64-bit future and tells about the Squid proxy, David Hart looks at Virtual PC from a user's perspective, Doug Clark details the operation of the WarpDoctor REXX plugin, and Robert Basler offers a gift-buying guide for the friends and family of the OS/2 die-hard, and we have a couple more cool desktops for you in The Art Department. Thanks to SciTech for donating a copy of SNAP! Graphics for OS/2 to one of our authors this month. If you haven't tried it, go check it out.
