eComStation 1.1 RC1 Next Month

A copy of eComStation 1.1 RC1 arrived today. I haven't had a chance to take more than a cursory look at it yet, but we'll have some more info for you next issue.

WarpVision GUI

Having heard some more good things online, I thought it was time to give WarpVision (http://os2.kiev.ua/en/wv.php) GUI a try again. (http://www.os2ezine.com/20020816/page_4.html) I downloaded the 2003/01/13 version and to my surprise, it now seems to play DVD's very well. It took some fiddling to get it to work at first, I had to put UDF.SYS before CDFS.SYS in config.sys (thanks to the included FAQ,) but once I had done that, it started to play, and it hasn't stopped since. The mysterious crashes I experienced with the command line version seem to be gone.

Audio/video syncronization is now very solid. As I mentioned previously, WarpVision still suffers a bit with scaling images, they're using scanline duplication/elimination for their stretching which makes things look a little funny on diagonals, but if you use the handy 1:1 option on the video window menu, you get crystal-clear DVD video. I might be spoiled however, I'm used to a hardware MPEG-2 decoder card that does wonderfully clean scaling.

WarpVision is donation-ware, so why not give it a go!
