Isaac Leung (P.Eng.) got a degree in Engineering Physics followed by a Master's in Electrical Engineering after which he promptly got a job as a product engineer at a company which makes high speed datacom chips. Following the dot-com meltdown, he's back at school studying biophysics and optical properties of semiconductors. He is old enough to have cut his computer teeth on Commodore 64's and first played with OS/2 1.3 EE while at a summer job with IBM. The first PC he ever owned came with Windows 95, but he soon slapped on OS/2 Warp 3 and has been Warping ever since. In between looking for a new job, he plots to take over the world.

JPhotoBrush Pro - Award Winning Multi-Platform Image Editor that runs in OS/2

From The Editor

Step by step...

I'm glad the last issue worked out alright, although it was by no means perfect, as many of you readers have pointed out! Hopefully the same "bugs" won't pop up again this time. Sooner or later I'll get it right. As always, if you see something broken in this issue, don't hesitate to point it out, I won't be offended!

Big OOOPS!

In a bit of late breaking news, I've gone and done something really, really silly and messed up the editor's e-mail account. If you've tried to send me something in the past 2-3 weeks (though probably less than that) and you haven't heard anything from me, try again at os2editor@yahoo.ca. Hopefully I won't mess this one up...

What's new?

There have been a few minor changes to OS/2 e-Zine this month. As always, let me know if you prefer the old way.

  • Font size and specification: I've removed the previous specification to "force" Helvetica or Arial and the "-1" font size. I figure readers want to read pages using whatever font they've set the browser to, who am I to over-ride it? Plus, it makes the HTML code slightly smaller. :-)
  • Updated the back-end generation code! Believe it or not, OS/2 e-Zine has been generated using PPWizard 1.10 for years now. Well, guess what? The newest PPWizard is at version 3.2 or something like that, and OS/2 e-Zine would not generate. I think I finally tracked down all the old code and fixed it up so that OS/2 e-Zine will actually compile with the latest PPWizard now. Next, we can move on to other changes and enhancements.

Going up

As I'm preparing this month's issue, I realize things are looking pretty bright for OS/2 users. The computer industry seems to have "matured" and the pace of change as slowed down a bit, giving us a chance to fill in the blanks in the OS/2 portfolio.

I'm also realizing that we already have it pretty good. There are so many things I can, and am, doing with OS/2, that I don't even have the time to get it all written up. I hope that some of you can contribute your experiences with using OS/2 to get things done. You'd be surprised how something simple that you do everyday isn't known by many other users!

Whatever it is you do with OS/2, I'm sure many of you have this warm, fuzzy safe feeling the past week after the latest worm/virus struck the Windows users. As with all the non-Windows users, I just hit "Delete" on all the warning e-mails and kept right on working. :-)
